It’s the SEC Saturday in College Football Week 10. But it’s not just two huge top-10 bouts in the top national conference that could affect the college football playoff race.

The country will be glued to Athens and Baton Rouge, where Tennessee vs. #3 Georgia and Alabama #6 vs. #10 LSU will clear the picture in the SEC race and possibly the playoffs. Tennessee took first place in the CFP for the first time. This is not only good news for now, but also good news for the near future. Only one team ranked first in the initial playoff rankings did not make the playoffs (Mississippi State in 2014) in the format’s first eight seasons.

Meanwhile, Clemson surprised some by passing Michigan to 4th in the first CFP rankings. The Tigers travel to Notre Dame, where the Fighting Irish have rebounded from consecutive losses to open the season. Will there be disappointment for Clemson, who fought Syracuse two weeks ago?
