The 2022 Major League Baseball postseason is almost here. The MLB regular season will end on Wednesday (October 5) and the 12-team extended playoffs will begin on Friday (October 7) with a wild card series of up to three wins. This is the largest playoff field in the entire 162-game season. you can read more about the new format here. A field of 12 teams is formed when the Phillies wrap up post-season crowd gathering on Monday night, and the Wild Card seeding will be determined on the final two days of the regular season.

We know the 2022 MLB postseason will continue beyond October. Game 4 of the 2022 World Series is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1st, so that’s a guaranteed date. Game 7 of the World Series is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th. This will be the last World Series game in MLB history. Because the first week of the regular season was delayed due to the owners’ lockout, each team added three make-up games to the end of their schedule.

Here’s something else to know about this year’s postseason schedule:

  • The Wild Card series up to three wins will be played three days in a row. There are no days off in the show.
  • There are no days off between 4 and 5 LDS games or between 5 and 6 LCS games. The journey can turn into a nightmare if teams meet on opposite coasts.
  • The World Series is played in the usual 2-3-2 format with days off between games 2 and 3 and games 5 and 6.
