2022 NHL Draft Final Rankings: The 120

Welcome to my final pick of the year. Less than two weeks away from the festivities, it will be interesting in Montreal, where the Canadiens always throw a real party and get the added bonus of first pick this season. It’s certainly been a chaotic year in the draft, but I stand my ground and put Shane Wright first overall. The ratings you see here are nearly identical to those you’ll find in the Draft Preview (available now, get that), but there were some more recent developments, such as the rise of Cutter Gauthier and Marco Kasper, that I should note here. . These rankings go all the way up to 120 to give you an idea of some of the sleepers that might be available later in the draft, and top 100 player descriptions are available in the draft preview. Let’s get to the list, shall we?

1. Shane Wright, C, Kingston (OHL): He’s exactly what the Khabs need, but he has a profile of what each Rebuilding Team Needs: A smart two-way center who can fit in and contribute. Let’s not think too much about it folks.

2. Juraj Słafkowski, LW, TPS (Fin): Big, talented and edgy, Słafkowski had a crazy international schedule that drew attention at the Olympics and World Championships. Playing in Finland, the Slovak teenager had some good results, but he still has a lot of potential.

3. Logan Cooley, C, NTDP (USHL): The University of Minnesota commit is going fast already, but it will likely get faster as it grows into its body and gets stronger. Cooley has excellent offensive tools and can use his talents defensively as well.

4. Simon Nemec, defender, Nitra (Svk.): Who will be the first defender off the board? It will be tight. But Nemec is a great candidate due to his mobility, defensive ability, and the offensive skills he brings to ranged combat. Had a monstrous playoff with Nitra, scoring almost a point per game.

5. David Jiricek, defender, Pilsen (Czech Republic): If the German is not the best defender, then Jiricek is your guy. The Czech defender is bigger and rougher than his peers but doesn’t ride as smoothly. He missed a lot of the season due to a knee injury, but the scouts have already fallen in love with him.

6. Cutter Gauthier, C, NTDP (USHL): He has risen a lot lately thanks to his renaming to center instead of left winger. Next year, Gauthier is set to play center in his freshman year at Boston College. He is a powerful forward with a great shot who can play in any situation.

7. Joakim Kemell, RW, JYP (F): As good as Slavkowski has been this year, Kemell has had a much better league campaign, albeit cut short by injury. However, the Finnish striker has a great shot, fights hard and can score penalties.

8. Conor Ghiki, C, Winnipeg (WHL): The size rule is in the top 10, and with Ghiki it’s an advantage. At 6’3″ and 196 pounds, the “Big Rig” is going to get a lot of attention because he’s already showing the numbers and he’s still got a ton of rounding to do in his game. The potential here is impossible to ignore.

9. Matt Savoy, C, Winnipeg (WHL): On the opposite end of the spectrum, Savoy is likely to get hit because he’s out of size, but whoever catches him will be thrilled. Savoy has excellent high-end craftsmanship, as well as a competitive streak that sees him throw himself into battle no matter what.

10. Marco Kasper, C, Rogle (Sweden): The Austrian citizen already has a lot of international experience and playing in Sweden this year helped him to get acquainted with the hockey world. Due to his size, skill, and physical advantage in his game, Kasper appears to be a tall player.
