Brent Flare joked that he hoped the Flyers didn’t rise so high again for a long time.

However, Flare and his team of amateur scouts are confident that a really good player will make it into the top five in the 2022 NHL draft.

“Yes, I think we have looked at the players that we think are in the top five and we have looked at various scenarios of what we think the teams ahead of us will do. However, there are still some unknowns.” —Flar said June 10 in a telephone interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia. “But I think we are happy with the number of different players in position, maybe even a couple more. see how it goes.”

After the 25-46-11 season, The Flyers were 5th overall in this year’s draft., which will be held July 7-8 at the Bell Center in Montreal. The Flyers have six picks in total. The first round starts at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, and rounds 2-7 follow on Friday starting at 11:00 pm ET.

“I think it was well documented, there is no Connor McDavids in the draft or anything. But there is some depth early in the draft,” Flare said. “There are different positions – there are a few centers, there are a couple of right-backs with skills and size, there are a couple of high-scoring right wingers, there is a powerful winger.

“In the beginning there are some interesting players. I think it’s going to be a really interesting first round… It’s going to be amazing, I think for a lot of people, I think there could be a lot of surprises at the start of this draft. .”

Leading up to July 7-8, we’re splitting the draft for the Flyers at No. 5.

Frank Nazar

Job title: Centre/winger

Height: 5 feet 10

Weight: 180

Shoots: Right

Team: USNTDP

intelligence report

While Nazar doesn’t have the full game yet, his level of skill is teasing. The Michigan-bound 18-year-old is fast, explosive, and as dangerous as can be in this puck-on-stick draft.

Nazar finished third on the US Under-18 National Team Development Program with 70 (28 assists, 42 points) in 56 games this season. He likes the way center Braden Point plays.

“If he was bigger, we would talk about him as a trio of potential players in this draft.” Earlier this month, Chris Peters of DailyFaceoff.com wrote.. “But he has a lot of power that he will need to add in order to be an effective player at the next level.”

There are completely different opinions about Nazar’s shares. EliteProspects.com named him the fifth best player in the entire draft, and Peters ranked him seventh overall. Craig Button of TSN ranked it 25th overall.

“His skating is amazing, he plays at close range, he has a lot of skill.” an anonymous executive told The Athletic correspondent Corey Pronman.. “I think the potential there is really enticing.”

Suitable for flyers

If the Flyers hold Nazar high and feel he’s going to fall a bit, it could give GM Chuck Fletcher the opportunity to trade him and potentially get a second-round pick.

The Flyers have no second-round pick due to Shane Gostisbeer traded last summer.

Let’s see how things go.

However, Nazar’s offensive power in the middle of the floor should appeal to the Flyers. His size and all-round play might have given the Flyers some pause, but Fletcher highlighted the organization’s need for more talent after several seasons out of the playoffs.

“Part of that is because we have to get younger, we have to get more talented, we have to get faster,” Fletcher said on May 3.

The Flyers joined USNTDP during the first round in years. They selected Cam York from the program in 2019 and Joel Farabi in 2018. Like Nazar, York went to Michigan. He turned professional after a successful second year.
