After working briefly at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf columnist in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still loves to dip his fingers into the PGA Tour betting pools on a weekly basis. McDonald is prudent with his straight pick and is having a lucrative 2022-23 season. It has climbed over 20 units this season, which means over $2,000 in profits for $100 bettors.

McDonald won the Farmers Insurance Open Championship, backing Homa (25-1) as his top pick. The expert also just missed out on a huge 130-1 score at the Sony Open when Hayden Buckley came in second. He made another shot at 25-1 at the Houston Open, which resulted in Tony Finau winning. The Expert finished the 2021-22 season with 42 units in his scoring, including a monstrous 250-1 payout on Hudson Swafford at The American Express. Best Arnold Palmer Invitational 2023 Expert Picks

One surprise: expert fading Thomas, former world number 1 and one of the favorites. The 29-year-old has finished in the top 25 in four straight tournaments and finished fourth three weeks ago in Phoenix. He continues to argue with his top-level short game, but McDonald says “the inefficiency in other aspects of his game” makes him a fairly easy vanish. The two-time winner of the PGA championship was not even close to Ram, Scheffler and some others. Thomas ranks 93rd in shots landed and 115th in shooting.

At the same time, the pundit knows that Ram was the best of the hot golfers and doesn’t expect him to fade too much. The 28-year-old regained his first place in the rankings, which gave him even more confidence than he had already earned thanks to his stunning run. The Spaniard has won five of his last 10 tournaments around the world and finished in the top 10 in all of them. He won the Genesis 17 under and 93 under in the last five tournaments. Ram leads the green tour in terms of rules (75.7%) and average (67.2) and ranks ninth in hits scored. See who he supports on SportsLine.
