DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Not one, but two major events at the legendary Watkins Glen International Roadway, NASCAR’s 75th Anniversary on-track celebration at the 45th HSR Mitty at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, and the return of the popular HSR Ridge Runner Rally are new additions for 2023. The Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) schedule once again includes racing at the legendary North American highway circuits that race enthusiasts and competitors alike enjoy.

A couple of races in the Glen start with the first HSR Classic Six Hours race at Watkins Glen from June 8 to 11, and then the HSR Classic 24 At Daytona and HSR Classic 12 Hours of Sebring as one of the main HSR tribute races . The Classic Six Hours marks the first ever HSR event at the historic New York circuit with its own weekend.

In addition, HSR returns to the Glen August 19-20 with its growing group of HSR Historic Stock Cars to celebrate HSR for the first time as a support race series on NASCAR’s main weekend.

Another highlight of the 2023 calendar is the return of the popular HSR Ridge Runner Rally May 14-18 after a year-long absence. The 500+ mile, multi-day rally typically traverses the most scenic southeastern US states and their hidden highways and has become something of a “seventh inning” for HSR competitors and competitors every racing season.

“This is the first HSR scheduling announcement under our new IMSA ownership and it is easy to see the benefits our members, teams, competitors and fans are getting from having HSR as part of the IMSA family,” said HSR President David Hinton. “The doors to HSR have been opened like never before and we are grateful for all the behind-the-scenes work of (IMSA President) John Doonan and the IMSA team to make the 2023 HSR schedule one of the best ever. Celebrating NASCAR 75 at the HSR Mitty, adding a couple of show races at Watkins Glen – one with NASCAR, no less – and being part of what’s turning into a multi-week schedule around the 12 Hours of Sebring is something we could only have dreamed of before. We are already looking forward to 2023!”

In total, the extended calendar of nine events starts and ends at Sebring International Raceway in Florida and includes at least one stop at equally legendary circuits like Daytona International Speedway, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Road America and Watkins Glen. HSR is expected to return to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca next August for the third year as the sanctioning body for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Monterey Pre-Reunion.

Other major blockbuster races on the schedule include the 45th HSR Mitty at Michelin Raceway, April 27-30, and the HSR Classics at Dayton, November 1-5, and Sebring, November 29-December. 3, which once again close the calendar for 2023.

The season-opening event for the fifth year in a row is the HSR Spring Fling in Sebring, which will run from March 24-26. The March date is just one week after the 71st run of the iconic Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and HSR will be one of the weekend’s headliners with other contemporary racing series.

The first race at Sebring is followed by the 45th HSR Mitty at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, one of the longest running historic and vintage races in the US and the first blockbuster race of the HSR season. Next year, the HSR Mitty will be even more powerful with the 75th Anniversary of NASCAR racing event. The sanctioning body was founded in 1948, making 2023 its 75th season, and Mitty will be just part of the year-long NASCAR 75 celebration.

Historic stock cars are already a big part of every HSR weekend at Michelin Raceway, but next year’s 75th Anniversary celebration is expected to attract a large number of former NASCAR stars and cars to the weekend’s main event.

May is set aside for the Ridge Runner Rally, which sets the stage for the first HSR Classic Six Hours at The Glen in June. The exact format of the six-hour race will be announced in the future, but fans and participants can expect the event to follow the same continuous “hot race” schedule as classified by the Run Group as used for the HSR Classics in Dayton and Sebring. .

As part of a traditional NASCAR race weekend, the HSR Classic Stock Car Race at The Glen will be a popular and historic event. It is very likely that retired stock cars that raced at the Glen in their prime may reappear in the first HSR with NASCAR at the Watkins Glen short track.

For the fourth year in a row, HSR’s fall racing schedule begins with a guest appearance by the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association at the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival, September 14-17. HSR competitors of all classes are placed in existing and appropriate VSCDA running groups for this popular event on the four-mile Road America course.

Just a week after Road America, HSR returns to Michelin Raceway for the HSR Fall Historics, taking place September 21-24. A perfect addition to every April HSR Mitty at Michelin Raceway, the Fall Classic has taken on an appeal and popularity of its own, and is the second of three repeat course visits on the annual HSR calendar.

The HSR Classic Daytona race presented by IMSA, which will take place for the ninth time in 2023, returns to the World Racing Center from November 1 to 5, and is again followed by the second HSR Classics sister event, the HSR Classic 12 Hour. in Sebring, Pistons and Props presented by Alan Jay Automotive Network. The eighth annual HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour will take place at the legendary Sebring Airport circuit from November 29 to December. 3.

The HSR Classics in Daytona and Sebring share the map each weekend, respectively, with the Daytona Historics and Sebring Historics, which round out each HSR championship season each year.
