The Jaguars beat their Texan rivals last week to go up 8-8 on the season. Despite previous expectations that their follow-up Week 18 matchup with the Titans would decide their playoff fortunes, their win this weekend ultimately improved their chances for the postseason. As FiveThirtyEight points outa certain scenario would allow the Jaguars to make the playoffs even if they lost the regular season finale against Tennessee.

The Jaguars will capture the AFC South Championship and take 4th seed in the AFC Playoffs by defeating the Titans on Saturday. However, if they lose to Tennessee and the following results occur, they will still earn a playoff berth as a wildcard team:

  • The bills beat the Patriots
  • The Jets defeated the Dolphins
  • Browns beat Steelers

If the Jaguars win in Week 18 and these three outcomes occur, then Jacksonville would become the AFC South champions and the Patriots would enter the postseason as the last wildcard team with an 8-9 record.
