The UFC schedule continues to change. After the epic UFC 284 card in Perth, Australia, the promotion returns on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Sometimes a replacement with a short notice is more tempting than the original booking. This may be the case when former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Jessica Andrade stepped in seven days before the fight to take on rising female flyweight Erin Blanchfield at UFC Fight Night.
Blanchfield trained to fight Tayla Santos, the latter of whom lost a split decision to UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. During the broadcast of UFC 284, the promotion announced that Andrade would replace Santos. Santos pulled out of the fight after her cornermen were denied visas, her manager Thiago Okamura said. Now Blanchfield is facing an equally tough test in the form of the former flyweight champion, who just beaten Lauren Murphy in January. Blanchfield scored her big win in November by eliminating Molly McCann.
The situation continues to heat up in March. First, the vacant heavyweight title is on the line when Jon Jones makes his divisional debut against Cyril Gein at UFC 285. The matchup came as it was announced that Francis Ngannou had been stripped of his title and released from his contract. . Jones will enter the octagon for the first time since February 2020. Two weeks later, the epic trilogy comes to a head in London when welterweight champion Leon Edwards takes on Kamaru Usman at UFC 286.
The latest UFC PPV announced is a rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight Championship in Miami on April 8th. This card will also feature the highly anticipated showdown between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal.
