Just days before the visit, McDonald had included UF in his top 10, but a recent trip seems to have sped things up. Dan Mullenthe staff did little for him, but McDonald’s fell in love Billy Napiergroups and see how the changes you make have affected the players.

He also sees a chance to play earlier in Florida, which is always tempting for those who want to develop quickly. Defensive Grip is the position required for Gators with Gerveon Dexter is eligible to turn pro after this season, so the door should be open for McDonald to get reps as a freshman if he signs.

Even the players in his position want him on board. Freshman Protective Tackle Chris McClellanthe former four-star recruit made it clear over the weekend that he wanted to play alongside McDonald’s.

“He told me we were going to be picked in the first round of the draft,” he said. “Just like a big brother to me. I hung out with him the last time I came. He just told me: “Go to work.” Trainer Chaos (Sean Spencer) will help you get to where you need to be.”

Spencer’s work in the NFL meant a lot to defensive line recruits who looked to the Orange and Blues, and that may be what brought McDonald on board.

Looking ahead, McDonald has another official visit to Michigan scheduled for Friday 24 June and then he will take a break to decide where he wants to spend his three remaining visits. Commitment is not expected until October at best.

McDonald was ranked 290th overall and 39th among defensemen in the 2023 class by On3 consensus.
