The Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game, which begins at 4:30 p.m. ET, brings the largest number of television viewers to a regular season game each year. They did it again on Thursday in record-breaking fashion.
According to Fox, the Cowboys’ 28–20 victory over the Giants was watched by 42 million viewers. This makes it the most played regular season game on any network in history.
It beat the previous regular season total of 41.474 million viewers for a 1990 49ers-Giants game.
According to the NFL Records Fact Book, the 2021 Thanksgiving Cowboys game almost set a record with 40.802 million viewers. It was the most watched regular season match of the last season.
Fox did not announce a rating or share, except for the New York market (11.2/38) and the DFW market (24.5/69).
CBS announced that Bills-Lions was the highest-rated Thanksgiving game of any network on record. This game, which started at 12:30 pm ET, averaged 31.627 million viewers and peaked at 41.981 million viewers.
