Imagine the surprise at the PGA Tour Supermarket in Bluffton, South Carolina, when a big champion showed up to make a purchase on Thursday afternoon.
Shane Lowry, 2019 Open Champion, drove an hour from Congaree Golf Club after “accidentally breaking” his club in the first round of the CJ Cup.
Lowry played Thursday morning, hitting 3-68 despite saying he broke his club on the ninth hole. With local equipment manufacturers packing their merchandise on Wednesdays at Tour events, Lowry needed to find a replacement. So he went to the nearest place where he could find an Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball stick.
And he got charged like everyone else? It seems so.
Lowry kicks off at 12:25 pm ET in the second round.
