Lexi Thompson (10 more)

Two weeks ago, Lexi Thompson missed out on the Amundi Evian Championship after experiencing great grief at the KPMG Women’s PGA. At Muirfield, Thompson rattled her last three holes en route to a final score of 77. She only made two birdies in two rounds and finished 10 overs.

Anna Nordqvist (4 more)

The 2021 AIG Women’s British Open champion said this week she doesn’t feel any pressure. I just wanted to enjoy the moment. Recording only three birdies in two rounds to finish 4th in the tournament was certainly not what she had in mind.

However, Nordqvist has a lot to look forward to, who will soon have a wedding celebration in Scotland that has been postponed twice due to the pandemic.

Dame Laura Davies has competed at the Women’s British Open a record 42 times. The 58-year-old closed out with a shocking 10 on Friday the 18th, scoring 81 to finish 14th in the tournament.

Davis is exempt from the AIG under 60s, which will come in 2024 when the championship returns to the old course.

The form in which Ayaka Furue closed out with a magical 62 to win her first LPGA title five days ago at the Women’s Open Golf Championship did not last long. The Japanese newcomer was 18th and finished with the fourth point.

The fight continues for 2020 AIG Women’s British Open Champion Sofia Popova, who hasn’t qualified for the Majors since the 2022 Chevron Championships. Popov made 37 putts in the first round and suffered a double bogey mid-round on Friday. She shot 75-71.

Catriona Matthew grew up near Muirfield in North Berwick and as a child competed in several men’s British Opens held at the historic club. The 2009 UK Open champion hit the opening tee shot on Thursday, but was never successful, shooting 76-73 and finishing 7 over.

After an emotional comeback last week at the Scottish Open, Patty Tawatanakit was unable to continue at Muirfield. Two consecutive rounds of 75 left her well outside the cut. The 2021 Chevron champion tearfully told the media last week that she’s been having trouble lately both on the golf course and in her personal life, and it’s taken a toll on her emotionally.

Sofia Schubert (9 more)

It’s been a tumultuous couple of weeks for Sophia Schubert, who took a career-best second at Amundi Evian before flying back to the US for a sponsorship engagement at the PGA Tour stop in Detroit (Schubert didn’t take the field at the Scottish Open).

Schubert recorded two doubles and a triple in rounds 79-72. Muirfield marked her third major start as a professional.

After struggling over the weekend at the US Women’s Open, Swedish amateur Ingrid Lindblad had a much quieter British Open. Lindblad took the field on Monday for the final qualifier in North Berwick. The LSU player shot 74-76 and missed out on this championship for the third time.
