Alabama received a welcome surprise from Friday’s recruitment. Five-star running back Richard Young of the Class of 2023 announced he was heading to Alabama on his Twitter page. He chose Crimson Tide over Oregon as well as Georgia.
Alabama was considered the front-runner in Young’s search for much of his recruiting effort. On Friday, however, On3’s Sam Spiegelman made a prediction in favor of Oregon. This led many to believe that the Florida native was related to Eugene. Luckily for Alabama fans, that wasn’t the case.
Young is ranked 37th in the 247Sports recruiting rankings. It is listed at 5 feet 11, 200 pounds. He currently attends Lehigh High School in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Last season, he had 196 carries for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns.
He is the second running back in Tide’s 2023 set. The other is four-star runner Justice Haynes. The two are likely to form a respectable one-two hit in Tuscaloosa for many seasons. Regardless of who else joins the class, the coaching staff have done an excellent job up to this point.
