UMAG, Croatia. Top seed Carlos Alcaraz edged out Facundo Bagnis 6-0, 6-4 at the Croatia Open on Friday to reach his seventh semi-final this year.
The 19-year-old Spaniard is defending his first ATP title, which he won in the coastal city of Umag last year.
Alcaraz, who finished in fifth place, saved the only break point he faced, improving his 2022 clay record to 26-3.
He will then play Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri, who beat Spain’s Bernabé Zapata Miralles 7-5, 6-4.
Runner-up Yannick Sinner advanced to his first semi-final this year after beating Roberto Carbales Baena 6-4, 7-6 (5).
The Italian failed to serve the match 6-5 in the second set before taking the tie-break victory.
“Of course I’m very happy,” Sinner said. “I’ve won a lot of matches but I think I’ve had a few bad moments this year.”
Sinner will take on Franco Agamenone, who overtook 2018 Umag champion Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-1 in a match between the Italian qualifiers.
