MMA fighter and boxer Anthony Taylor made headlines after punching Dillon Danis in the face in a parking lot after the Misfits Boxing x DAZN Series 003 weigh-ins last Friday in Austin, Texas.

Denis first got into it with KSI during an impromptu look down and things got wild as contact was made and drinks thrown out before he was separated. Shortly after, a video surfaced of Taylor entering the parking lot to challenge Denis to a fight, and after breaking through the group trying to separate them, Taylor delivered a viral right hand punch to Denis’ face.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Taylor explained why he made the decision to stand up to Denis and revealed that the jiu-jitsu preeminent not only messed around with social media and boxing influencers, but also with the reporters covering the event.

“Dillon Danis, who just came in, he was just a hooligan,” Taylor told MMA Fighting. “He picks on reporters for being tough with his MMA buddies or whoever the hell he is with. But he just acted tough, acted like he couldn’t even be touched, because, “I’m the world champion in jiu-jitsu, no one is going to fight me.”

“So he comes to do his thing with KSI, flicks his hat or punches him in the face, throws his coffee and just runs away. Like, dude, don’t show up to a YouTube event trying to intimidate other fighters, especially YouTubers who don’t have legitimate fighting experience. They are learning to fight. It’s called a YouTube event, don’t try to be a bully. You don’t see Jon Jones trying to bully YouTubers.

“I took it into my hands to say something. Nobody said or did anything to Dillon for years, and he got away with it for so many years, doing the same thing to Logan Paul, Jake Paul, Khabib, all those [people]and he got away with it. Do not come to the event, try to be a bully, push the journalists, because now I will call you. If you want to fight youtubers and boxers, fight me. I am also an MMA fighter. How are you? That’s how it escalated.”

In 2022, Taylor competed in square circle fights three times, going 1-1 and fighting no decision under exhibition rules at the recent Floyd Mayweather vs. Deji boxing event – a fight that MMA Fighting won 40-36 for Taylor vs. Jack. Finch.

After watching Denis perform at the weigh-in and creating a run-in with KSI, Taylor had had enough.

“I pushed him lightly with my left hand, he tried to hit me with a quick jab, I threw my little left jab, he tried to hit me and then I hit him with an overhand right and he tripped. – 50 yards back, baby. Pow,” Taylor said. “If it wasn’t for that truck, it would have fallen.

“But we must never resort to violence, ladies and gentlemen. Don’t resort to violence because that’s not always the right way to resort to things. I could sit down and talk to him, “Hey Dillon, come to me.” Let’s go talk and have coffee. But instead I said, “Fuck it, I’m going to hit you with the right top down, buddy.” I had to tell the world about it. Children come to me and say: “Thank you for your service.” Which? I have never served in the army. “No, for what you did to Dillon Danis.”

The impact appeared to be clean from Taylor, throwing Denis a few steps back into a truck parked in the parking lot. Although it looked like he landed with power, Taylor says he didn’t land with full power.

“I caught him about 30 percent,” Taylor said. “I caught him at the end of an overhand right, at the very end. Not that I interfered in it when he caught a full whip.

Denis, who has a contract with Bellator, is due to return to action to face KSI at the Misfits Boxing event in January – a fight Taylor compares to Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren because “we know what the outcome will be.”

The Taylor situation is not the first time Denis has been involved in some kind of altercation this month, as he had a conversation with Nate Diaz after UFC 281 in New York that resulted in a slap in the face of one of Denis’s band members. on the face.

Taylor says the incident led the promoters of the boxing event where former UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy defeated Hasim Rahman Jr. to ask him not to attend, which he understood and accepted. Taylor hopes that a short fight with Denis will lead to some changes.

“It was my first time I saw him at all,” Taylor explained. “I don’t care what Dillon Danis does, he’s a troll. But that doesn’t mean that KSI or any of those guys would come up to Dillon on the street because he would twist them into a pretzel and strangle or break your arm.

“No one wanted to challenge him like that, except me. I was ready to take the consequences. There could be a bad situation. It could have been a very bad situation after I hit him. Thank God, there were no unpleasant consequences.
