AP Top 25 poll: Clemson jumps Alabama, Tennessee plummets in updated college football rankings

Clemson moved up two spots over Alabama to 7th in the new AP Top 25 poll released Sunday as the Tigers quietly lurk in the back of the college football playoff bid. Although the Tigers don’t have a true standout win on their resume, they are now 10-1 with games against quality opponents South Carolina and North Carolina in the ACC Championship game left before the four-team CFP field is announced on December 4 .

The Tigers thrashed Miami 40–10 on Saturday thanks to a dominant effort from their defense and benefited from Tennessee’s surprise 63–38 loss to South Carolina. Volunteers dropped from 5th to 9th place due to defeat. Tennessee’s loss also saw USC move up two spots to 5th after the Trojans beat UCLA 48–45. Dame, who moved up five spots to No. 13 after beating Boston College 44-0.

Kansas No. 15 and Florida No. 16 are up four spots each from Saturday’s wins.

North Carolina slipped five spots to No. 18 after a surprise loss to Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss slipped six spots to No. 20 after losing to Arkansas.
