The victory not only moves Arsenal (60 points) five points clear of two-time defending champions Manchester City, but also changes the position of both sides (finally) with the same number of games played (25). The Gunners have yet to travel to the Etihad Stadium on April 26 for a chance to avenge one of their three Premier League defeats this season.
Meanwhile, Everton (21 points) remain 18th in the table, still stuck in the relegation zone after two defeats and just one win (and one goal scored) since defeating Arsenal on Sean Dyche’s debut on 4 February.

Patience and perseverance pays off for Arsenal
Arsenal landed all three shots in the first as they walked effortlessly towards the Everton goal for 35 minutes, not to mention on target. Sure, they had 70 percent possession, but Dyche’s team did what Dyche’s teams did. So the Gunners kept passing, probing and pressing, while Saka was resolute and ruthless when, at last, on 40 minutes Oleksandr Zinchenko found the magic ball in the penalty area.
Six minutes later, in stoppage time of the first half, Saka again wreaked havoc when Idrissa Gouille lazily dribbled the ball back to his net, recovered it and sent Martinelli forward to beat Jordan Pickford one-on-one. In six minutes, the Gunners answered many questions about their champion qualities, their maturity and their belief in themselves in order to stay on course in difficult times.
Commentator Peter Drury said it best after Martinelli’s No. 1 goal. 4: “There’s a glorious arrogance at Arsenal right now.”

Key storylines and players in good shape to keep an eye on
The Gunners weren’t at their best against Leicester last time, but they didn’t need to be. They dominated possession and Leicester had almost no chance. Arteta’s side are showing that they can win matches in different ways and with Trossard, Martinelli, Saka, Nketiah and Odegaard all scoring key goals at different times, they seem determined to hold onto this title until the very end of the season.
Everton’s problems were scoring goals and they created some great chances against Villa but just couldn’t finish. They have scored just 17 goals this season, the lowest number in the Premier League. They will try to keep the defense on their toes and hope to cause havoc with set pieces at the Emirates.
