Experience availability in Auburn’s Quarterback Room has been significantly reduced this week.
Sources close to the situation told Auburn Undercover on Thursday that the backup quarterback Zach Causeway He will undergo surgery on a non-spreading shoulder later this month and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 season. The Texas A&M translation will be looking for a medical red shirt.
Justin Hokanson of Auburn Live was the first to report it.
After playing 10 games at Texas A&M last year, Calzada moved to Auburn in January, though he missed all of spring training while recovering from a shoulder problem. He was eliminated in preseason camp TJ Finley for start work and Oregon translation Robbie Ashford for the No. 2 spot. Calzada did not appear in the first three games of Auburn’s season.
On Tuesday, Auburn Undercover reported that Finley will miss at least Saturday’s game against Missouri due to a shoulder injury sustained against Penn State. Ashford is expected to kick off, and sources told Auburn Undercover this week that the real freshman Holden Geriner also could see some playing time.
When asked at his Monday press conference if Calzada is healthy enough to play and be available against Missouri, Harsin initially joked, “Do you know something I don’t?” before announcing the move of the quarterback and former SEC West starter, this is “compete like everyone else.”
Ashford led Auburn in his only fourth-quarter touchdown in a 41-12 loss to Penn State and completes 51.7% of his passes for the year, with one touchdown and two picks. He also gave the Tigers a double threat element on the ground game, he is currently second on the team with 158 yards.
