The medical examiner was unable to determine whether the brain injury sustained as a result of football could have caused the seizure disorder.

“Whether Mr. Thomas’s seizure disorder is a result of natural causes or the result of head blows received during his career as a professional football player is not known, and verified medical records do not include the etiology of Mr. Thomas’s seizures.” stated in the conclusion of the forensic medical examination.

Last month, Thomas’s family said that researchers at Boston University had examined Thomas’ brain and determined that he had stage 2 CTR.
