Two fighters will be forced to increase weight for future fights in California following their dramatic weight gain at Bellator 286, including bantamweight contender Enrique Barzola, who led the card with a 25.6-pound gain between the weigh-ins and fight night.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) on Tuesday released an evening weight report for MMA Fighting that tracks athletes’ progress to the cage.

Barzola weighed in at 163.4 lbs on fight night after initially coming on the scales at 137.8 lbs at his 141 lb catchweight with Juan Archuleta, which he lost via unanimous decision. This 19 percent increase represents the largest increase of any 26 fighters who competed on the October 1 card, prompting CSAC officials to bar Barzola from fighting at 135 pounds or below at future CSAC regulated events.

Spike Carlyle received another local weight suspension after tipping the scales 180.2 pounds on fight night for a lightweight bout with AJ McKee, which he lost via unanimous decision. Carlisle originally weighed 156.6 pounds – a 0.6-pound miss – meaning that his 23.6-pound gain before fight night represented a 15 percent increase in his total body mass. As a repeated offender, the CSAC subsequently suspended Carlisle from competing in California at or below 155 pounds.
