Ben Simmons on facing the Sixers without Joel Embiid: ‘The fans will make up for it’

Ben Simmons will face the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time Tuesday night since he was forced out of town two years ago. However, when Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets take the court against the Sixers, they will do so against a team from Philadelphia that does not include Joel Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey.

While there will be no star power on Philadelphia’s side this game, Simmons knows it won’t change the Sixers’ icy reception.

“I think the fans will make up for it.” Simmons said carefree at the team’s shootout before Tuesday’s game. “I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be fun.”

When asked what he thought about how some Philadelphia fans were disappointed with the way his time and tenure ended, Simmons didn’t mince words.

“I can’t worry about anyone’s feelings,” Simmons said. “After all, I’m not here to make everyone happy.”

Simmons also opened up about his relationship with Embiid, which has been reported in the past as not being close when they were teammates. Simmons spoke fondly of his former teammate and the time they played together.

“We had a lot of highlights, we had a great time” Simmons said. “I love Joel a lot too, obviously it didn’t work out, but things don’t work out in your favor in life. I wish him all the best, obviously not a championship against us, but all the best.”

The All-Defensive defender then revealed that he and Embiid had not spoken recently.

“You don’t get along with everyone, you don’t text everyone,” Simmons said. “I think there are certain people you just don’t talk to all the time. I have friends that I don’t talk to all the time, but we’re still cool. That’s how life happened.”

Simmons says he hopes Embiid is in the building despite his leg injury and of course they will exchange pleasantries before the game. However, once the ball is passed, Simmons is sure to get a cold welcome from the Sixers’ plans, who have undoubtedly circled this game on their calendars since the schedule was released.
