Josh Allen’s elbow injury could keep him from playing the Vikings 7-1 on Sunday.

Allen was officially listed as questionable for Buffalo’s Week 10 game against Minnesota in Friday’s injury report released by the team.

“We’ve been planning this potentially from the beginning,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said Friday. “So let’s see what happens… After all, Josh has to be Josh if he can play, and if Case (Kinum) is playing, Case has to be Case and run the offense.”

Allen injured his elbow in the closing moments of Buffalo’s Week 9 loss to the New York Jets, but downplayed the severity of the injury immediately after the game. Since then, his right elbow has been a hot topic, causing McDermott to answer questions regarding his quarterback throughout the week.

McDermott has repeatedly stressed the team’s trust in Keenum, the veteran tanker Buffalo added in the offseason for just this scenario. Keenum is adept at stepping in when called out, and even led the Vikings — the team that Buffalo plays on Sunday — to a 13-3 record and a playoff that reached the NFC championship game in 2017.

It’s been a while since Keenum played the starting role, but he may have to do so on Sunday against his former team. If he is required to take the field, Buffalo will need Keenum to show his best game without making mistakes that could lead to a second loss in a row.
