Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason has criticized former President Donald Trump for hosting the LIV Golf tour at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, this week.
The LIV Golf is backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and was protested by many because of the country’s human rights violations and the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers on September 11, 2001 were Saudi citizens.
The Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster is an hour’s drive from the World Trade Center.
“This is the greatest insult to the families that sit here and ask: “What are we doing? We’re holding a golf tournament in Saudi Arabia with the Saudi Government’s Public Investment Fund at Trump Bedminster, right in the shadow of where these two buildings once stood? Is that what we’re doing here? Esiason said on the WFAN morning radio show Boomer and Gio, which he hosts.
Saudi Arabia has been accused of wide-ranging human rights violations, including politically motivated killings, torture, enforced disappearances and inhumane treatment of prisoners. And members of the Saudi royal family and government have been accused of being involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist.
Esiason was not finished criticizing Trump, the LIV Golf tour, and his own employer, WFAN, as there were commercials on the radio promoting the tour.
“The former president puts this garbage there, and these guys take this money,” Esiason said. “This is an insult to all the people who died on 9/11 and how their families suffered. But it’s also an insult to all the people who died after 9/11 because of all the toxic carcinogens they ingested while trying to clean up this place.”
“These guys over there are playing music, making hundreds of millions of dollars from the government of Saudi Arabia, is that what we do? They can kiss my ass. I don’t watch,” Esiason added.
