With just over a month to go until 2023, the first half of the boxing calendar has begun to take shape. While the schedule fills up, some of the most anticipated fights in the sport have yet to take place, including a potential big-money showdown between Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Ryan Garcia.
In November, Davis announced that he and Ryan Garcia had agreed on a deal to fight in 2023, and Davis only had to contact Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 for the fight to take place. He did just that, enduring a tough early test before scoring with a knockout, securing arguably the biggest fight in boxing in terms of public attention. Now the fight at the negotiating table must be completed before the fighters can enter the ring.
One highly anticipated fight will take place on February 26, when Jake Paul and Tommy Fury will hopefully enter the boxing ring in Saudi Arabia. Paul and Fury have twice been going to fight, and both times Fury was forced to refuse. Now that the date and location have been set for the third time, it looks like the fight will finally take place.
The schedule has also improved significantly with the recent announcement that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will have a rematch on May 20 in Dublin, once again fighting for Taylor’s undisputed lightweight championship. Their first meeting was billed as the fight of the year in front of a wild crowd at Madison Square Garden, making it the biggest and arguably most important fight in women’s boxing history.
Below is the current list of major boxing events for 2023.
