As December dawns, the New York Giants enter the final month of the calendar with a winning record for the first time since 2016.

Despite a two-game losing streak, Big Blue rookie head coach Brian Daball is making sure his 7-4 team knows they have arrived at an extremely important time of the season and may have reached an extremely important moment in the franchise’s continued turnaround.

“When you play meaningful games in December, I think that’s why we all do it,” Daboll said Tuesday via the team’s transcript. “You’re going back to OTA, preseason and early season; now you are in december. And I was on the teams that played meaningful games in December, and I was part of the teams. It’s not much fun when you don’t play meaningful games. So let’s get to work with a great attitude and a positive attitude. Keep getting better. And you focus on the opponent of the week: you have to do it. But these are important games now.”

Under Daboll, the Giants started the season surprisingly 6-1, stunning many along the way, before going wild with losses to the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys.

However, they are still in the best position to return to the playoffs and record their first winning campaign since the aforementioned 2016 season.

Daball believes that his players handle the adversity of losing streaks the same way they handled the triumphs of their early success – taking on the courage and staying firm in their approach.

“I think the way they deal with winning is they are consistent,” Daboll said when asked how he thinks his team is handling recent difficulties. “We have all been in this league for a long time. The last time you didn’t face adversity will be the first. You will face it. Week 1, week 5, week 10. So the approach has to be consistent, like the message I’ve been trying to convey since I’ve been here.”

On Sunday, New York will host Washington Commanders (7-5) and take 6th in the NFC, right in the playoff bubble and just ahead of Washington’s 7th.

As he mentioned, it is not new for Daboll to play significant football matches in December. As offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, Daball has made the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.

Now he’s trying to do it four times in a row individually and take the Giants to their first playoffs in six years. An important December is ahead for Big Blue.
