Browns RB Nick Chubb believes his late TD ‘cost us the game’ in last-minute loss to Jets

The Cleveland Browns lost a last-minute heartthrob to the New York Jets in Week 2, and running back Nick Chubb has one big regret: He scored a touchdown.

However, it was not just a landing. Chubb scored a touchdown with just 1:55 left, and when the extra point went wrong, Cleveland led 30–17. With so little time on the clock, very few could have predicted that the Joe Flacco-led Jets would return the ball, score a touchdown in just two plays, hit a successful field goal, and score again to win by just one. dot.

The Jets had no timeouts left, so if Chubb hadn’t scored that touchdown and instead just scored the first down, the Browns could have kneeled on the next three downs to beat time. They would have won 24-17 instead of losing 31-30.

Chubb is now aware of this, and told 92.3 The Fan on Tuesday that he believes he cost the Browns a victory over the Jets.

Is it Chubb’s fault?

Chubb may feel bad, but in no way is he solely (or most, or even half) responsible for how the game ended. It doesn’t mean he scored that touchdown and the game suddenly ended in a loss for the Browns. There was 1:55 left when the Jets got the ball back, and their offense doesn’t take the field alone.

The Cleveland defense was also heavily involved in the game after that touchdown—or at least they should have been. They let the Jets and 37-year-old Flacco trample them, especially defensemen who couldn’t act when they were needed most.

Let’s hope the offense and defenders send Chubb a six pack and a thank you and apology card. Since he takes credit for the loss over the radio and essentially apologizes for his job, it’s the least they can do.
