The UCLA Bruins have enjoyed the comforts of home in their last two games, but now they have to hit the road. UCLA and the California Golden Bears will face off in a Pac-12 showdown at 4:30 pm ET Friday at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium. If the final result of “nothing to nothing” since the last meeting is any indication, this contest will be decided by the defense.

In almost any game, 45 points practically guarantees a win. Not in this. The Bruins lost to the USC Trojans 48–45. At the end of the first quarter, UCLA had 14 points but could not hold the lead. Despite the loss, they got some good results from quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who passed four touchdowns and 309 yards on 38 tries in addition to rushing for two touchdowns and 75 yards. A Thompson-Robinson touchdown throw from 55 yards at WR Kazmeir Allen in the fourth quarter was one of the most memorable moments of the evening.

Speaking of even games, last Saturday the Stanford Cardinal was up 17-6 over California going into the fourth quarter, but California stole the victory right out of Stanford’s nose in the closing minutes with a final score of 27-20. RB Jaydn Ott of the Golden Bears looked witty as he landed in one rushing touchdown. One of those touchdowns came with 1:01 left to put California in the lead forever.

The Bruins are the favorites in this game with an expected 10-point lead. Those who got burned by picking them against the spread last Saturday might want to keep in mind that the team hasn’t yet given up back-to-back games against the spread this season.

California’s win took them to 4-7, while UCLA’s loss dropped them to 8-3. After losing four passes, UCLA had a hard time holding the ball. Let’s see if the Golden Bears can exploit this vulnerability.
