Weber was one of the best defensemen in the NHL in 2020-21, scoring 19 points in 48 games of a pandemic-shortened 2021 campaign before helping the Canadiens make a surprise appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Alas, the foot and ankle injuries that plagued Weber for years worsened as the race progressed. And after the Canadiens’ loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, it emerged that Weber would be out indefinitely, with the possibility that he would never play again.

It still looks like it, which is a sad end for the once-dominant quarterback in the NHL.

Initially, Dadonov was transferred on deadline to Anaheim, but the deal was canceled due to his altered no-trade clause. Dadonov, 33, has 20 goals and 43 points in 78 games for the Golden Knights.
