LAS VEGAS – Thiago Moises was on Christ Giagos‘radar for a while now.
Jagos (19-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) will take on Moises (15-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 38 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on ESPN after prelims on ESPN2/ESPN+.
Both RFA graduates, Jagos is surprised the pair have never fought when they were under the same banner before, but thinks now is the perfect time to fight.
“I think he is very technical, a very good fighter. He was ranked #14 at one point and I think he’s very good,” Giagos told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the UFC Wednesday on ESPN Media Day 38. “I think it’s a great matchup. . He fought tough guys, I fought tough guys. He’s 4-4 in the UFC, I’m 5-5, so I think the UFC did a great job in this fight. I knew I would fight him at some point because I fought on the same map as him in the RFA when he fought for the title.
“And Dana White was there on his show and he wasn’t signed. I wasn’t signed, but I feel like Dana White made a bigger impression on me. I thought I would fight him for the title. At one point I was an RFA title holder, but I thought I would get that chance again against Thiago. So I knew that at some point I was going to fight him, so the time was right. I really enjoy this match and I just think that stylistically it’s a great fight for me.”
