It was a surprise when the Panthers acquired a quarterback CJ Henderson from the Jaguars last year, due in part to Henderson’s draft status.
Henderson was selected before former head coach Urban Meyer took over the team’s football operations. But he was still No. 9 overall in 2020 and played as a starter at the start of the 2021 season.
But Henderson moved to the Panthers and ended up playing 10 games out of five starts for the club. He finished the season with 31 tackles and a couple of defensive passes for the club.
Henderson enters an important third pro season as the Panthers will have to select his fifth-year option next spring. He said in an interview with Jonathan M. Alexander of Charlotte the Observer that he feels more comfortable in his second year with the team.
“It’s different, less pressure than being the main guy and stepping into that role. early in your career“, Henderson said.
Henderson also has pretty high hopes for the 2022 season.
“When I train and prepare the best I can, I feel like the sky is the limit for me,” Henderson said of 3rd grade. “I am surrounded by good guys who will help me unlock this potential. So we’re all just shooting for the stars.”
Next to Henderson there are talented players in the role of full-backs. Donte Jackson 2021 first round selection Jaycee Horn. If Henderson can perform well, the Panthers minor could be a strength for the team this season.
