One of Clemson’s freshman linebackers wants to learn everything he can in his first season with the Tigers.
As Clemson prepares for fall camp, T.J. Dudley spoke at the Clemson NIL collective event on Sunday and expressed his excitement for the 2022 season.
“In terms of camp, I’m looking forward to being a sponge and getting all the knowledge from Trenton (Simpson), LaVonta (Bentley), Keith Maguire, people who have been in and through the system,” Dudley said. .
At 6ft 2in and weighing 230lbs, Dudley said he was ready to play anywhere as a linebacker on the pitch, citing his versatility and leadership qualities.
Meanwhile, when it came to picking one of the 30 schools that offered him, Dudley said one of the main reasons he chose Clemson was defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin, whom Dudley called “a genius in the movie theater.”
“It’s the same with linebackers: be a sponge to everything he says and learn from him because he has a lot of knowledge,” Dudley said.
Four-star Dudley was ranked 22nd among linebacker prospects in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite.
After being discharged from Oregon last December, Dudley pledged allegiance to the Tigers on National Signing Day in February.
Even with his high potential as a player, Montgomery, Alabama’s product wasn’t only focused on football in his decision to dedicate himself to Clemson.
“This is more than football,” Dudley said. “PAW Journey and things like that really help you connect to other things because one day there will be no football and you never know when. It could happen sooner or later than expected, so that’s one of the main reasons (I chose Clemson).”
