The Washington Commanders got a little too physical in off-season training.
Commands coach Ron Rivera has been fined $100,000 and the team will lose two organized 2023 team practices due to too much contact in practice this year, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said, according to a source briefed on the situation.
Clubs are limited in how much contact players can have during off-season practice, and the NFL and the NFL Players Association are monitoring over-exercise practices.
The Commanders are the latest team to be penalized for violating off-season training protocols.
Earlier this offseason, the Chicago Bears and head coach Matt Eberflus were suspended from practice for violating no-contact rules. On Thursday, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was fined and suspended from a 2023 OTA practice for violating no-contact rules.
