Last Saturday night, the Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks reminded us of something vital: we never really know what’s going to happen.

In the previous month, they were held under 5 yards per game and 300 yards on three occasions and to 10 or less points twice. Well-touted transfer guard Spencer Rattler hasn’t even passed 212 passing yards since week two.

On Saturday against Tennessee, Rattler threw for 438 yards and threw for six touchdowns. South Carolina scored touchdowns in nine of 10 possessions and went on to a 63-38 victory that turned the college football playoff race around. There was no warning, no real way to know that this was about to happen, but it did.
