Maxime Cressy stunned world No. 9 and top seed Holger Rune in three tight sets to reach Saturday’s ATP final in Montpellier.
The Frenchman in serve and volleyball came out on top with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 7-6 (7/4) and advanced to his fourth final of the tournament.
Cressy made 15 aces in two hours and 36 minutes of victory and should be out of the top 40 next week.
The 25-year-old will be looking to win his second Tour-level title when he takes on Yannick Sinner in Sunday’s final.
“Yannik Sinner is an incredible player, like Holger Rune and everyone else in the tournament,” said Cressy.
Earlier on Saturday, Italian tournament No. 17 Sinner beat 18-year-old Frenchman Arthur Fils 7-5, 6-2 in his semi-final.
“He’s very strong and has great ground shots,” said Sinner, who will play in his eighth final.
“Maybe I had a little bit of experience with him in the first set and got a little lucky.”
