Damar Hamlin’s recovery has progressed to the point where the Buffalo Bills security team released his first public statement.

Five days after Hamlin’s heart stopped on the Monday Night Football pitch, Hamlin thanked all his supporters on Instagram. He called the love he received after the life-threatening incident “irresistible”.

Hamlin’s full statement:

When you give the world true love, it comes back to you 3 times more. Behind this we united the world again. If you know me, you know that it only made me stronger. On a long journey, keep praying for me! 🫶🏾❤️3️⃣

He published abbreviated version of the statement on Twitter same.

The love that Hamlin has received has been impressive indeed, with the most recent being a series of tributes in NFL games this weekend. His plight immediately prompted a flood of prayers and well wishes, as well as a suspension of the game, and kept the world waiting and hoping for good news.

Many of those supporters flocked to the GoFundMe foundation, which Hamlin created two years ago to support his mother’s preschool toy fundraiser in his hometown of McKee Rocks, Pennsylvania. The original fundraising goal was $2,500, but has since raised over $8.2 million as of Saturday afternoon.

Damar Hamlin is still in intensive care but getting better

Hamlin remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remains after his collapse. Earlier Saturday bills announced that safety continues to progress by continuing to breathe independently with “excellent” neurological function.

It’s the best possible scenario considering where Hamlin was just a few days ago. His life was saved by paramedics on a field in Cincinnati, who gave him CPR for 10 minutes before loading him into an ambulance. He remained unconscious until Thursday, when doctors announced that he was neurologically healthy.

His progress continued on Friday, to the point where he no longer needed a breathing tube and was awake enough to FaceTime with his teammates.
