The lag team takes advantage of this opportunity.

“Funny thing about David, the other day he was doing a couple reps on special teams and he ran out of reps and he was like, ‘Hey, can i join the scout team so how did my reps run out? Can I get on the scout team and take a look at these guys?” special teams coordinator Richard Hightower said via TheAthletic.com. “That speaks to (GM) Ryan Poles and (coach) Matt Eberflux about the culture these guys are creating.”

The more a player can do, the more opportunities he has and potentially more salary. Montgomery is in the final year of his rookie contract, so this is an important season for him.

“Wherever they need me, I’ll be ready to be there,” Montgomery said. “I have never played in special teams before. But I’m always depressed and excited to learn to be a better person.”

Montgomery and Khalil Herbert should get a lot of carries this season in a heavy offense that will use a defender Hari Blasingame.

Montgomery had at least 267 touchdowns, 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.
