Figueiredo regained the UFC 125-pound title with a decision win over Moreno in January but was still out with a hand injury. The Brazilian was unhappy when the UFC created the interim belt and is now fighting to have his next fight featured in the UFC’s return to Brazil, expected in the first quarter of 2023.

“My task is to make this match in Brazil,” Figueiredo said on MMA Fighting. free exchange. “Since they’re hosting the UFC here, I want to make sure they book my fight for Brazil. I want to fight whoever wins [at UFC 277]whoever it is, meet me here, under my crowd.”

According to him, Figueiredo’s plans to move up to bantamweight have been shelved for now. With Aljamain Sterling set to defend his throne from T.J. Dillashaw and two possible No. 1 contender fights planned – Jose Aldo vs. Merab Dvalishvili and Petr Yan vs. Sean O’Malley – Figueiredo instead focused on extending his flyweight reign.

“I admit that I have a desire to move up to 135 pounds,” he said. “I don’t know when, only God knows. [But] as long as I succeed at 125 pounds and there is someone who will challenge me, rest assured I will continue to protect what is mine.”

Figueiredo added that he wants to “go straight to the belt” when the time comes to test himself at bantamweight, and he doesn’t expect Sterling to be champion when that happens.

“I think it’s a matter of time before he loses that seat,” Figueiredo said of Sterling. “There are guys who are much better than him. If he faces Jose Aldo, Jose Aldo will knock him out.

“I was watching [Dillashaw] a lot, he is very strategic and smart. When he fights for the belt again, he will regain that title.”
