Despite short contract, WR Diontae Johnson wants to retire a Steeler

Pittsburgh Steelers and wide receiver Dionte Johnson agreed on a two-year contract extension with the talented lat. The contract was not in the spirit of the Steelers front office, but you have to applaud new CEO Omar Khan for finding a way to close the deal in a way that both parties are happy with.

As for Johnson, a two-year extension only means he will qualify to enter the free agency market after the 2024 season, hopefully with an even stronger resume. Having said this, when Johnson spoke to the media, he made it clear that he loves playing for the Steelers and wants to leave the Steelers.

“I love being a Steeler, I love it here”, I want to end my career here. Just being close to my teammates, being close to the vibe and the energy they show every day.”

Johnson is finishing his best season yet in 2021. Johnson had 107 passes for 1,161 receiving yards, both of which led the Steelers. Johnson got a big raise based more on potential than performance. I hope this encourages Johnson to step up and become the true No. 1 receiver that the team lacks.
