Matt Harmon: One thing that was interesting to me, Tank, and it’s kind of a storytelling thing, so maybe you can help me talk about it. But I thought that when Jimmy came off the bench last week, he put in a really good game. And he was kind of aggressive. And he even spoke – he threw it deep, beyond numbers. Aiyuk had a game with interference from a deep pass.

I think it will be for Ayuk because I think Ayuk has taken another step forward as a player. It was the theme throughout the offseason. I think Jimmy will… Jimmy and Aiyuk didn’t spend much time together either. When Aiyuk became a rookie, Jimmy took offense. So I think it’s probably a side step at worst and potentially good for Brandon Aiyuk if Jimmy continues to be aggressive.

And he sort of said it after the game, it’s right that he felt like he was back in 2017 again, when he could just go out and play loose because he has nothing to lose at the moment. So it’s a bit narrative that maybe Jimmy will play more aggressively because he has everything to win and nothing to lose at the moment.

TANK WILLIAMS: I mean, it’s a great moment, the way the Niners treated Jimmy Garoppolo like he was the quarterback they didn’t want, but they need right now. And when you’ve been in a situation where you lead a team to the Super Bowl and yet they go out and move up the draft to pick your replacement and then they give him your job this offseason.

You have an operation. You think you’ll be on a different team. Either way, you end up signing back. Then this guy leaves at the start of the season. Jimmy G knows he’s not the best choice for this team. At least he doesn’t think so. So right now he’s like, hey, this guy doesn’t… I don’t have to look over my shoulder with this guy. He’s not coming back, and there’s no one else on this list to come out and get me.

They don’t think too much about me anymore, so what can I do? Just go there, throw the ball, let it roll, let it fly, and then just work your way to another big deal with the other team. And so I believe he goes with that mindset. And we could potentially see a more improved Jimmy G. Because he doesn’t play with that hesitation, that uncertainty that he’s only two or two games away from being replaced.

Matt Harmon: Tank, you want to guess how many yards in the air Deebo Samuel is throwing on average right now?

TANK WILLIAMS: I have no idea, but probably like, what, 4? [LAUGHS]

Matt Harmon: one.

TANK WILLIAMS: Oh my goodness. [LAUGHS]

Matt Harmon: 1 air yard. Not airfields, airfields…

TANK WILLIAMS: Air yard.

Matt Harmon: — for the target. Air yard on target.

TANK WILLIAMS: One rib.

Matt Harmon: 1 air yard per target for Deebo Samuel. I think so–

TANK WILLIAMS: Oh my goodness.

Matt Harmon: I think he’s going to play a ton of runners, right? He is still their top stretch runner. Good thing he got his money, right? And it’s good that he received contract bonuses. But he’ll probably get bonuses this year, man. So I think Deebo is probably not going to return value in ADP just because I think he was too horny.

But at some point, an air yard will appear on the target. He’ll be fine. But I do think the seas… I think the seas kind of parted for Brandon Aiyuk to really take the next step, because Deebo doesn’t play that wide of a role as a recipient. And obviously we could bring Keetl back for this game as well. So I think we’re pretty good with Aiyuk. I mean, my God, 1 air yard per target.

TANK WILLIAMS: Air yard. [LAUGHS]
