LUka Doncic will return to action this Saturday. The Slovenian point guard has received the green light and has concentrated with his team to participate in a friendly against Italy that will be played in Trieste and that is prior to the last FIBA Window of the first phase of qualifying for the 2023 World Cup.
The Mavericks player has not played a game since May 26, when he was eliminated by the Warriors in the Western Conference final. For a long time he has been doing individual work to be able to arrive in good shape at the concentration of his national team. He had taken his presence with Slovenia for granted as soon as he finished the course in the NBA, in which he has played 80 games, 65 in the regular league and 15 in the series for the title.
This summer is difficult for NBA players who want to represent their countries. The teams face a first FIBA Window next week, another at the end of August just before the Eurobasket and then the continental tournament. To this we must add a previous concentration. The rules of the American League prevent its players from being with their national teams for so long and everyone has had to choose between skipping a Window, like the Spanish NBA and Nikola Jokic with the first, or spending less time in the previous concentration.
Slovenia is second with a record of 2-2 in a group led by Finland and which also includes Sweden and Croatia. The two games that the Slovenian team will face in this Window will be on June 30 against the Croatian team at the Stozice Arena in Ljubljana and on July 3 against Sweden in Stockholm.
