US Open Champion Radukanu was an injury in doubt for Wimbledonwhich will start on Monday as she is still recovering from a lateral strain at Nottingham earlier this month.

There were rumors that she could have played an exhibition match at Hurlingham Club this week to support her limited playing practice on grass, but an injury has kept her confined to practice courts.

However, there was better news on Thursday as, despite the holiday, Telegraph Sport understands that it is expected to participate in the draw for the tournament, which is scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday. She is seeded 10th this year, a far cry from her wildcard status just last year.

There are still growing concerns that the 19-year-old Radukan did not have enough time to fully recover ahead of Wimbledon. But the news that she intends to take part in the draw gives hope that she is still likely to at least try to play her first round match. This weekend’s preparation will be key to her final decision on whether the injury has healed enough.

Radukan’s return to Wimbledon has long been regarded as one of the highlights of the summer’s sporting events. She will see her return to the place of her incredible fourth round exit last year, which paved the way for her success in New York.

She was spotted training at the All England Club last week but is still hampered by a stomach injury she has been recovering from June 7th. This affected her ability to practice serving among other shots.
