INDIANAPOLIS – Eric Jones signed a multi-year contract extension with Petty GMS Motorsports, the team announced Saturday morning.
Jones, 26, joined the organization ahead of this season when Richard Petty Motorsports merged with GMS Racing.
“Eric (Jones) has been a great addition to Petty GMS this year and we are thrilled that he has signed on for the coming years,” Petty GMS owner Maury Gallagher said in a team statement. “We are excited to continue developing our Cup program with Eric, Dave (Elenz) and the #43 team. They have shown great growth and potential this season and we know it will only continue.”
Jones will compete in Sunday’s Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (2:30 pm ET on the USA Network) outside of the playoff venue. This season he has two top 5 finishes and seven top 10 finishes.
His best finish this year is third at Auto Club Speedway. Jones has been in the top 10 twice in the last three races.
Jones’ signing leaves one spot with Petty GMS Motorsports next season. Ty Dillon will not be returning after this season. Noah Gragson is considered a favorite for this place.
