ESPN gives Sixers an ‘A’ grade for their 2022 offseason additions

The Philadelphia 76ers had a busy offseason when they brought in De’Anthony Melton, P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. to improve their depth and supporting roster around stars Joel Embiid and James Harden.

The 66ers needed more stamina, as well as players who could play both ends of the court. They achieved those goals with the additions they made, and they signed Harden to a deal that keeps him in tow at a much lower cost.

ESPN gave the Eastern Conference off-season ratings, and they gave the Sixers an “A” for the moves they made:

By adding James Harden on the trade deadline, the Sixers have the opportunity to dump their roster around Harden and current starting players Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey this offseason. Harden’s decision to forego the $47.2 million player option and sign up for a lower starting salary — which ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski revealed last week that the NBA would investigate the fraud — gave Philadelphia the opportunity to use the mid-level non-taxpayer exemption to add Tucker.

In addition to Tucker, the 76ers also signed former Houston Rocket teammate Danuel House Jr. and acquired De’Anthony Melton in a trade for the Memphis Grizzlies. The result is a deeper Philadelphia variant with more two-sided members to accommodate the stars.

At the moment, the 66ers have a very strong roster on paper. Embiid is one of the best players in the league regardless of position, Harden still makes a huge impact and looks healthy in training, Tyrese Maxey is a rising star and Tobias Harris does it all. Given all of that, and the additions they’ve made, the 66ers are sure to be among the contenders for the Eastern Conference crown in the 2023 playoffs.
