Colorado men’s basketball player Evan Batty is the recipient of the men’s Tom Hansen Medal for the 2021–22 season. Batty received his BA in Journalism in August 2021 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Organizational Leadership. Batty has appeared on the AD honor roll seven times with a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. He was also a 2019 Pac-12 Men’s Basketball All-Academy Team Honoree, a 2022 Senior CLASS All-American, one of four 2022 CU Male Career Athletic Achievement Award recipients, one of the first two recipients of the 2022 Colorado Athletics Visibility Award. An award (CAVA) that promotes LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports. In 2018, Batty won the Clancy A. Herbst Sports Achievement Award from CU Athletics, given to those who overcome personal, academic and/or emotional challenges or hardships to excel in both academics and sports. He is also a two-time winner of the Tebo Family PASS Team Award, given to the player who has best demonstrated perseverance, attitude, dedication and success, and won CU’s Ceal Barry Leadership Award in 2019 and 2020. On the court, Batty had a 2022 All-Pac-12 second-team performer and an All-Defensive Team honorable mention. He helped Colorado go to four straight 20-win seasons and three postseason games (one NCAA, two NITs), and has served on the Pac-12 Mental Health Task Force and the 11-player NABC Player Development Coalition nationwide.
