This season, we’ll dig deeper to tell stories about the rich history, tradition and culture of the Premier League and give you the answers you need to know more.

Have you ever wondered why Nottingham Forest has Forest in its name?

This is one of the coolest and most unique team names in all sports. But why would Nottingham Forest have Forest in its name?

Yes, before you scream, it has something to do with Robin Hood. Let me explain…

Gaelic hockey football

In 1865, a group of brilliant players (a Gaelic sport similar to field hockey) met at the Clinton Arms pub on Sherwood Street, Nottingham.

Chairman J. S. Scrimshaw suggested playing football rather than hockey. The participants agreed and changed the clubs for the ball, so the football club “Nottingham Forest” was born.

But where did the name Lesa come from?

This is because they played their first games at the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham.

Robin Hood reappears here.

The Forest Recreation Center is located in an area that was part of Sherwood Forest in medieval times.

Origin of Robin Hood

So Sherwood Forest – synonymous with Robin Hood – was technically the original home of Nottingham Forest.

But as the team’s popularity grew, they had to move from the Forest Recreation Ground as the land was shared land and the club couldn’t charge people to watch their games.

They’ve called the City Ground their home since 1898, and it’s only 4.5 miles from their spiritual home, which was once part of Sherwood Forest. Hence the name.

As for Aston Villa, Unai Emery’s team lost 4-2 at home to Leicester City last weekend, which came as a shock after a recent improvement. Villa are still aiming for a top 10 finish and after facing City and Arsenal in the next two matches, they have a winning streak ahead of them.

Key storylines and players in good shape to keep an eye on

All the talk this week in the City has been about the consequences of the alleged violations and how it will affect their future.

Pep Guardiola had this to say about the training camp ahead of this game: “What has happened since Monday is similar to what happened with UEFA. We’ve already been convicted. You have to understand that 19 teams in the Premier League are blaming us and we don’t have the ability to defend ourselves. We are lucky that we live in a wonderful country where everyone is innocent until proven guilty. We didn’t have that opportunity, we’ve already been condemned. I am completely sure that we will [proven] innocent.”

On the field, City didn’t look like themselves after the World Cup break as Kevin de Bruyne rarely appeared on the field and Erling Haaland struggled to repeat his scoring exploits at the start of the season. By the time this game starts, City could be eight points behind Arsenal.

Villa’s week has been a lot simpler and Emery is keen for Villa to prove that their loss to Leicester was a one-off. Aside from this defeat, Villa looks much better defensively and is set up to counterattack. They can prove very fruitful against a Manchester City team who will be pushing a lot of players forward to solve the problem.

For the second time this week, Leeds United and Manchester United will clash, and there will be a tense atmosphere at Elland Road for this clash between bitter rivals.

In the middle of the week Leeds were leading 2-0 at Old Trafford without a manager, but cut their lead to a 2-2 draw as they remain just above the relegation zone. With the sacking of Jesse Marsh, uncertainty reigns around Leeds, but their players have at least dug deeper to secure a point away against their fiercest rivals.

As for Manchester United, Erik ten Hag was unhappy with a sloppy start against Leeds but he will be thrilled to return and overall the past few months have been exceptional. With Marcus Rashford leading the attack, United are very dangerous and they could be in this title race.
