Fantasy Football Week 12 Running Back Rankings: Latavius Murray, Rachaad White enter RB2 discussion

There will be several new names in the Fantasy Football Runner Rankings for at least Week 12. The most notable of these is probably Samaye Perin, who took the RB15 position from me in my first run, but that suggests Joe Mixon (concussion) will be out this week. Mixon missed two games the last time he had a concussion, but at least on Tuesday we don’t know his chances of recovery yet.

Perin will be a mandatory starter if Mixon is out, but I can’t say the same for players like Rachaad White or Latavius Murray. White is the best choice if you have to pick one, and Leonard Furnett’s hip injury kept him out of the field when the Buccaneers returned to training after Monday’s farewell week. It doesn’t necessarily mean Furnette will absent this week, but that’s a point in White’s favor, and in that case he should be in line for a significant role. He’s a strong RB2 in PPR formats, but this Buccaneers offense wasn’t as good at cutting production as last season, so while White should see a heavy load, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will lead to points.

And that’s even more true for Murray, who moved up the rankings on Monday following news that the Broncos were ditching fumble-prone Melvin Gordon and had Chase Edmonds deal with a sprained ankle. That leaves Marlon Mack as the only healthy running back for the Broncos besides Murray, and with Mack yet to see a field for them, it’s safe to assume Murray will play a big part this week.

The problem is, this Broncos attack was a disaster. Murray is averaging 3.3 yards per throw, which is somehow worse than Gordon’s, and their running backs combined just five touchdowns in 10 games of the season in the league’s highest-scoring offense. The Panthers matchup isn’t terrible as their terrible offense allows teams to focus on running, but it’s fair to ask if Murray and the Broncos are able to take advantage.

What complicates things for Murray is that he has never been a great pass catcher and still hasn’t played a big role in the Broncos’ offense in that regard. Russell Wilson has thrown 8.1 times per game to his running backs this season, so Murray could play a solid role in catching passes, and if he does, it will be a lot easier for him to become the RB2 that most will probably view him as. this week. I think he’s on the edge – he’s not a must-have to start, but he’s pretty good.
