Five-star defenseman Derek Williams Jr. moved to the Texas Longhorns on Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive guard joined Arch Manning as the second Louisiana five-star to head to Texas for the Class of 2023.
247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Cooper Petagna had this to say about Williams:
Multi-dimensional running and covering for a strong defender or midfielder. … Projects as a multi-year high-level starter in the Power Five program at the next level could potentially become an all-conference linebacker under the right scheme.
This recruiting victory speaks volumes. Not only can Texas take on the SEC schools and win in recruiting, they can beat Nick Saban in head-to-head battles and beat LSU for Louisiana’s best players.
For Texas to reach their potential, they need elite defensive talent. At Williams, they get one of the best security systems in the country. Pete Kwiatkowski will undoubtedly use his versatility as a star in his defense.
Williams is the third safest player in the nation and third overall in Louisiana, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
