Five wildest moments from NFL Week 11: A special Bears bachelor party and coin flip magic

For the first time, maybe this year, I can say this: this week in the NFL has not been very wild. The Philadelphia Eagles struggled against the Indianapolis Colts, the Washington Commanders made light work of the Houston Texans, and the Baltimore Ravens failed to play their best game against the lowly Carolina Panthers. Some teams that are considered “good” didn’t look too good on Sunday afternoon, but in terms of wild moments, there weren’t many of them this week.

However, that doesn’t mean this final run won’t be wild. the playoff picture looks incredibly confusing. I mean, check out AFC East! All four teams have at least six wins! While this weekend wasn’t the most memorable of the 2022 NFL season, there were still a few highlights. Below, we break down five of the wildest moments from NFL Sunday in Week 11.

5. Bachelor party with bears

When your boy is about to get married, you usually take a trip to Vegas or perhaps rent a beach house or have a bachelor party golf course planned. Instead, all these guys dressed up as legendary Bears head coach Mike Ditka and headed to the Bears-Falcons game.

This is amazing. Credit to you guys. Where is the app to join your group of friends? I’ll even be marginal, I don’t care.

Unfortunately for these guys, Chicago lost to Atlanta 27-24.

4. Brett Maher scores two field goals from 60 yards in a row

The Dallas Cowboys completely crushed the Minnesota Vikings, 40-3, on Sunday. This final result is enough to make this list, but there was a rather strange case that kick fans would like to know about.

Less than a minute before halftime, Dak Prescott hit C.D. Lamb for 27 yards, dropping Dallas to the Minnesota 42-yard line. Then Brett Maher came out and made a 60 yard field goal — BUT WAIT… The league called and wanted to check Lamb’s catch in the game earlier!

After confirming the catch, Maher had to go out and hit another 60 yard field goal. But he did not flinch. Do you know why he didn’t flinch? Because Maher has hit three field goals from 60 or more yards in his career ahead of this game, which is an NFL record.

As John Breech of CBS Sports points out, there were only two field goals from 60 yards through Sunday all year. In addition, NFL kickers in the history of the NFL have only landed 17.1% of their shots from over 60 yards.

3. Intercept T.J. watt

TJ Watt is an incredible player who influences games in so many ways. He is great at hitting passes on the line of scrimmage. He has 36 defensive passes in 80 regular season games, including two on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. He also had a game where he just snatched the ball right out of the air – a steal you have to see to believe.

2. Jets Coin Remains Unbeatable

It’s time to talk about this story. “Coin” was first brought to my attention by my favorite Nashville colleague, John Breach, who discussed it. in my column this week.

The Jets are a pretty interesting story this season. Not many expected to be 6-4 years old at this point in the year, but one person did just that. Back in August, someone on Twitter decided to simulate the entire 2022 Jets season, choosing the outcome of each game with a coin toss. So far, the coin has come 10-0 in its predictions, including Sunday’s New York loss to New England. Seriously.

On the coin, the Jets lost to the Bears the following week but went on to go on a five straight win to finish 11-6. In fact, on the coin, New York goes all the way to the AFC Championship game!

1. Patriots win in the last second

The Jets-Patriots game was just awful. The Jets recorded 103 offensive yards (only 2 yards in the second half), while the Patriots went 0-for-2 in the red zone and also struggled to score. In a 3-3 game with 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Jets hit the ball and made no attempt to send it out of bounds. Looking back, this was a mistake.

Rookie Marcus Jones fielded his boots and ran 84 yards home to win the game with seconds left.

Some thought that there could be a couple of blocks in the back, but the arbitrators did not throw any flags.

It was the first punt return touchdown in regulation since DeShawn Jackson scored one for the Eagles against the New York Giants in Week 15, 2010. It was also the first punt return touchdown of the 2022 season. The Patriots have won 14 consecutive games against the Jets, the longest active winning streak by one team over another.
