Florida offered Picayune Memorial four-star edge rusher (Mississippi) Jamonta Waller on Thursday, according to a social media post he sent out in the afternoon.
Waller spoke to a defensive analyst Jamar Cheney and outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson before accepting an offer. He talked to the program for a while and felt that the offer would be made. 247Sport.
“It’s something that kind of accumulated,” Waller said. “I have a good relationship with Coach Jamar and I just got the opportunity to speak with Coach Peterson today. We discussed it over the phone and he was the one who suggested it to me.”
However, this is not the first SEC proposal that Waller has earned by a wide margin. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, GeorgiaMissouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee And Texas A&M applied for it and LSU offered the same day as Florida. These are 11 out of 14 conference programs, so it’s safe to say that Billy Napier & Co. will be scheming either for or against him in the future.
The good news is that it won’t take long for Waller to get to Gainesville for his first visit.
“I am looking forward to being there on March 11,” he said. “When I leave, I want to be able to go on the field and somewhere where there are good coaches who can turn me into a great player and a great young man. I just want to see if you feel at home.”
Waller’s schedule is busy in the spring. During the summer, he gets to know the teams ahead of official visits, and programs like Florida have to surprise him to earn one of the five spots. Waller says the Gators are “on top,” but that doesn’t guarantee anything.
Waller is ranked 206th overall and the 15th best player in the 2024 class in the 247Sports aggregate rankings. In the site’s independent rankings, he is only in the top 200 at 199th and 12th among those in his position. On3 has yet to rank Waller as a rookie, and in Rivals, he sits at 184th and 10th, respectively.
