Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Trae Waynes dropped out earlier this offseason, and the veteran made it clear he won’t be named on other teams this summer.
Waynes appeared on “Giri and Stein Sports Showand said that he had effectively resigned, even if he did not make an official announcement.
“I mean, it’s open, but to be honest, I don’t explore anything,” Waynes said. “Actually, several teams called, but in my head everything is ready. I don’t officially do it, I would say, just because I don’t… I’m retired, but I didn’t announce it or anything like that.”
Waynes, selected 11th overall in 2015, will turn 30 this summer but looks ready to call it a career.
In March 2020, the Bengals signed Waynes to a three-year, $42 million contract. He missed all of 2020 with an injury and only appeared in five games last season as a depth option after further injuries prevented him from staying on the field.
